The University and NAF

The operative unit of allergological dermatology at the University of Florence contributed to the NAF (Non-Allergic Footwear) project, completely coordinating all of the research:

• furnishing a list of the principle substances that cause allergic contact dermatitis from shoes, to be avoided during the manufacture of footwear;
• verifying, from a dermatological-allergological point of view, which products might be used by the Industry;
• evaluating the allergenicity of leathers tanned with chrome and with alternate tanning method;
• clinically evaluating if NAF could be worn to good effect by those subject to allergic contact dermatitis from shoes.
